Principles
It is our policy that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos.  We also believe it is important that certain activities are facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. Please note that it is expected that all children will wear the appropriate clothing at the appropriate time. This is very important for Health and Safety reasons in Physical Education. Children without the correct clothing will not be allowed to take part in the lesson.

Aims
Our policy for children’s school uniform is based on the belief that a school uniform:

• promotes a sense of pride in the school
• engenders a feeling of community and belonging
• is practical and smart
• identifies the children with the school
• is not distracting in class (as fashion clothes might be)
• makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance
• is regarded as suitable, and good value for money, by most parents
• has been designed with health and safety in mind.

Our colours are red, grey and white and the uniform is as follows:

Boys

• Grey trousers or grey shorts
• School red sweatshirt with/without school logo
• School white polo shirt with/without  school logo
• School red fleece and/or reversible fleece jacket with/without school logo (optional)
• School red book bag with school logo (optional but preferable)

Girls

• School red sweatshirt with/without school logo
• School red sweat cardigan with/without school logo
• School white polo shirt with/without school logo
• School red  fleece and/or reversible fleece jacket with school logo  (optional)
• School red book bag with school logo (optional but preferable)
• Grey skirt, grey trousers or grey pinafore dress
• Red gingham dresses may be worn in the warm weather
• All children should have a pair of indoor shoes – clearly marked with a non-slip sole.

For PE all children need

• White t-shirt  and  dark PE shorts
• A pair of trainers with non-marking soles and a tracksuit for outdoor P.E.
• A football kit In Years 5 and 6
• All swimming costumes should be one piece.
• Children representing the school in inter school sports are encouraged to wear the relevant team colours and school tracksuit. These will be provided.

Optional items

• School red cap with school logo/or any cap marked with child’s name
• School bags should NOT be too large and the school red bags should be large enough for the vast majority of school events.

 Jewellery
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school (with the exception of Year 6 who may wear a watch).

Make up and Cosmetics
Make up and cosmetics are not considered appropriate or consistent with our school uniform.  The school does not permit such products to be worn by any children, unless there is a specific religious event for which the Head has given permission.

All clothing and footwear should be clearly labelled with your child’s name

This policy will be enforced without exception from September 2008.
