School Uniform Policy

Following wide consultation with pupils, parents, staff and governors, the following was agreed by the Interim Governing Body as the school uniform at Shakespeare Primary School.

Rationale:

The principles for requiring the wearing of school uniform:

We would like children to look smart.
We want the uniform to be easy to buy in local stores and priced on a budget.
We want the uniform to be easy to keep clean and suitable for active learning.
We want all children, from Nursery to Year 6 to wear this uniform.

Aims:

Through pupils wearing school uniform, we aim to:

promote a sense of pride in the school
engender a feeling of community and belonging
easily identify the children within the school
help children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance
ensure clothing is suitable, fit for purpose and good value for money

Our colours are red, black / grey and white and the uniform is as follows:

Winter	¨ White shirt and tie, or ¨ Red or White Polo-shirt ¨ Red Sweatshirt or V-necked jumper (with or without school logo) ¨ Grey or black trousers ¨ Red fleece (optional) ¨ Grey or black socks ¨ Sensible black footwear	¨ White shirt and tie, or ¨ Red or White Polo-shirt ¨ Red Cardigan, Sweatshirt or V-necked jumper (with or without school logo), or ¨ Grey or black trousers, or ¨ Grey or black knee-length skirts, or ¨ Grey or black pinafore dresses ¨ Red fleece (optional) ¨ White socks, or ¨ Red, grey or black tights ¨ Sensible flat, black footwear

All clothing and footwear should be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Jewellery, Make-Up and Hair Accessories
Ear-rings ~ We discourage ear-rings. For pupils, who do wear pieced ear-rings, these must be studs or sleepers only.

Watches may be worn at the discretion of the parents.

On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear any other jewellery (i.e. no rings, necklaces or bracelets) in our school.

Make-up and nail varnish is not part of school uniform and should not be worn to school.

All headwear needs to be appropriate to school, i.e. hair bands / Alice bands and hair slides only to be worn where hair needs to be tied back. These items should be in line with school colours only.

Footwear

Shoes must be ‘sensible’ and flat (no distinctive heels). Open-toed sandals can be a hazard for pupils, who are very active at playtimes.

Please note that any ear-rings, watches or personal items worn to school are the sole responsibility of the pupil and the school bears no responsibility for loss, damage or theft.
