School Uniform Policy

Principles
It is our policy that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. We also believe it is important that certain activities are facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. We provide a complete list of the items needed for children’s school uniform in this policy.

Aims
Our policy for children’s school uniform is based on the belief that a school uniform:

promotes a sense of pride in the school
engenders a feeling of community and belonging
is practical and smart
identifies the children with the school
is not distracting in class (as fashion clothes might be)
makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance
is regarded as suitable, and good value for money by most parents
has been designed with health and safety in mind.

Our colours are navy blue, grey and white and the uniform is as follows:

Boys

School navy blue sweatshirt, plain or with school logo
School white polo shirt, plain or with school logo or (white shirt)
School navy blue fleece and/or reversible fleece jacket with school logo (optional)
School book bag with school logo
Grey trousers or grey shorts

Girls

School navy blue sweatshirt with school logo or
School navy blue sweat cardigan with school logo
School white polo shirt, plain or with school logo or (white blouse)
School navy blue fleece and/or reversible fleece jacket with school logo
School book bag with school logo
Grey skirt, grey trousers or grey pinafore dress (with zip front)
Blue gingham dresses may be worn in the summer term

For PE all children need

School t-shirt with school logo
School gym bag with school logo. Sports bags must be of the soft drawstring variety and clearly labelled.
School black PE shorts/short leggings
A pair of trainers and a tracksuit for outdoor P.E. only

Optional items

School navy blue knitted hat with school logo

Swimming - Years 5 and 6 only.

Swimming trunks: fitted type only / swimming costume/ towel

Jewellery
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school. Children with pierced ears may wear plain studs. Jewelled or fashion earrings are not permitted.

PLEASE NOTE

Children must remove studs for P.E. and swimming. If they cannot then they must not wear them on P.E. days. Other piercings are not allowed on health and safety grounds – see WMDC Health and Safety Guidance.

Make up and Cosmetics
Make up and cosmetics are not considered appropriate or consistent with our school uniform. The school does not permit such products to be worn by any children, unless there is a specific event for which the Head has given permission. This includes the wearing of nail polish on fingers and toes.

Shoes

Black flat outdoor shoes or black flat outdoor boots. “Ugg type” boots are not allowed as they are unstructured and damage children’s feet. During summer months girls may wear dark coloured flat sandals with a heel strap to conform with health and safety regulations. White or grey socks must be worn. The wearing of training shoes and flip flops/mules is not permitted.

All clothing and footwear should be clearly labelled with your child’s name and we recommend that attention be paid to the ‘care label’ inside each garment when washing.
